Ooty Travel Guide



Ooty is known as Udhagamandalam and also called as Queen of Hills. Ooty is the capital of The Nilgiris district. Ooty is one of the famous hills station in India. Its is situated at an altitude of 2,240 meters above sea level. Nilgiris Blue Mountains. It is a land of picturesque picnic spots. Used to be popular summer and weekend getaway for the Britishers during the colonial days.
There are plenty of interesting tourist spots like Gardens, lakes, water falls, shooting spots, sight seeing and many more.




Botanical Garden





Ooty called as "Udagamandalam" in the version of Tamil original name. And proudly known as "Queen of Hills". Botanical garden is one of the best tourist attraction place which attracts the tourist from all over the world. This garden was laid out in 1847 by the Marquis of Tweedale and is spread over 22 hectares ascending the slopes on the hill at an elevation of 2,400 meters above Main Sea Level.

The "Summer Festivals" is held each year during the month of May in the Botanical Garden. Flourishing green well maintained lawns, rare trees species a 20 million year old fossil tree, an Italian - style garden bordering, a immense variety of flowering bushes, flowers, and plants , fern house with a vast range ferns and orchids, a clear pool are some of the highlights of this garden. A flower show along with an exhibition of rare plant species is held every year in the month of May at this garden.

The Garden is maintained by the Horticulture Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu and has a very wide variety of plants that include different types of roses, imported shrubs, rare flowering plants etc.The "Summer Festivals" is held each year during the month of May
